This weekend will be Sauber’s 400th Grand Prix, an incredible achievement considering the volatile world of Formula One.
The team debuted at the 1993 South African Grand Prix achieving a fifth place thanks to Finn, JJ Lehto. In their debut season they finished seventh in the Constructors Championship with twelve points.
Since then Sauber have become a solid midfield team, which has meant it has become a perfect place for rookies to show their talents to the F1 world. These have included drivers such as Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica to name a few.
This is something the team continue to do, having given current Sauber driver, Felipe Nasr, his debut in 2015.
Although currently a customer of Ferrari, the team did for a time become the factory BMW team from 2006 to 2009. Under BMW ownership, the team achieved its first F1 win at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.
